Our Team of Physicians

At Home in Both Worlds

In addition to their education at a university, the physicians in the clinic have absolved many years of further training in traditional Chinese medicine and have learned to adapt the Chinese therapies to the constitution and life styles of European patients.

The Chief Physician

Dr. rer. nat. Christian Schmincke, the Director of the clinic, is a biochemist and doctor of naturopathy. After many years of academic studies at the Max-Planck Institute in virus research and subsequent study of medicine in TŸbingen, he received his training in Chinese medicine from teachers in Europe and China. He was trained in breathing therapy by Professor Glaser and has worked with Professor Li Bo Ning at the Sichuan Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Before the Klinik am Steigerwald opened, he ran a general naturopathy practice that focused on Chinese medicine. His experience flows into his lecturing and teaching activities. Dr. Schmincke is also a supervising physician for DECA (Institute for the Documentation of Empirical Material in Chinese Herbal Medicine) and lecturer for the German Medical Profession for Acupuncture (DÄGfA).

Intensive Exchange

The 8 physicians in the clinic combine the knowledge of the West with the Chinese art of healing in their therapies.
A regular exchange of information between physicians, therapists and the nursing staff is a part of the daily routine in the clinic. For patients, this means an optimal synergy of the different therapeutic methods and a therapy in which all facets have been coordinated. They profit from the close networking of the clinic with professional organisations such as DECA, D€GfA and the Teaching Institute for Phychotonics (LIP) in Zürich.

Research for Patients

The professional documentation and evaluation of the courses of treatment rest in the hands of our own research department. Continuous control of the results of the work allows the further development of Chinese therapy methods and their methodical adaptation to Western life styles. In view of this background, the clinic serves as a teaching clinic, for example for the "Chinese Medicine" work group at the University of Munich. With its practice-oriented further education programme for doctors and medical students, it is one of the most training-intensive clinics for Chinese medicine in Europe. In addition, the clinic also participates in research projects, e.g. a pilot study carried out by the Institute of Crop Science and Plant Breeding of the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture (LfL Pflanzenbau) to cultivate high quality Chinese medical herbs in Freising-Weihenstephan.
